2.2.163. SPN 3511, FMI 31, 5Vdc Supply: Voltage out of range in supply 3ΒΆ

Description

The EEM monitoring system has detected an internal failure in the 5 V sensor supply.

Possible causes are:

  • The fan is defective or the the fan speed sensor wiring is defective.
  • The rail pressure sensor or sensor wiring is defective.
  • The boost pressure and temperature sensor or sensor wiring is defective.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. The CAN message indicates an active fault.

Solution

First save the error log and then do the procedure that follows:

  • Examine the rail pressure sensor for a short circuit to ground.
  • Examine the boost temperature and pressure sensor for a short circuit to ground.
  • Examine the fan speed circuit wiring and the power supply.
  • Examine the fan speed circuit the connectors and the contact surfaces of the connector pins. (possible oxidation).
  • If no short circuit is found, the reason might be a defective ECU.
  • Test the ECU operation with another ECU controller. If the system is functional and the fault is not active with the replacement ECU, then the original ECU is defective.
