2.2.36. SPN 1136, FMI 31, ECU temperature sensor: Over temperature HIGH, ALARM 2

Description

The EEM monitoring system has detected a too high internal ECU temperature.

Possible causes are:

  • The vehicle cooling system is defective.
  • The fan belt is slipping or the belt is broken.
  • The fan is broken and not turning with the engine.
  • The ECU is covered with dirt.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. The CAN message indicates an active fault. The engine stops after 30 seconds, if the ECU internal temperature is continuously >114 °C.

Solution

First save the error log and then do the procedure that follows:

  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Look that the ECU is not covered with the dirt.
  • Verify that the airflow is sufficient to the ECU.
  • Examine the fan belt and the belt tension.
  • Examine that the fan is turning with the engine.
