2.2.29. SPN 110, FMI 3, Coolant temperature sensor: Electrical signal above normal, possible reason is open circuit.ΒΆ

Description

The measured coolant temperature signal is above the normal operating range.

Possible causes are:

  • The coolant temperature sensor wiring is defective.
  • The coolant temperature sensor is defective.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. Engine power is reduced (Degradation Level 1). The CAN message indicates an active fault. Engine protection and other functions that depend on the coolant temperature are not active.

NOTE: The engine overheating protection is not active. The engine may be damaged, if overheating happens.

Solution

First save the error log and then do the procedure that follows:

  • Examine the coolant temperature sensor wiring, the connectors and the contact surfaces of the connector pins (possible oxidation).
  • Test the operation with another coolant temperature sensor to see if the temperature sensor is defective.

See Coolant temperature sensor for reference.
