3.2.83. SPN 168, FMI 1, Battery voltage BELOW NORMAL (< 7,8 V)

Description

The EEM4 monitoring system has detected a too low battery voltage.

Possible causes are:

  • The battery is defective.
  • The generator is defective.
  • The battery wiring is defective.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. The CAN message indicates active fault. Some engine functions that depend on the voltage level are not active.

Solution

First save the error log and then erase it. Restart the ECU after erasing the error log. If the fault occurs again during the next driving cycle, check the following paths:

  • Check the battery’s condition. (see Engine ECU power supply)
  • Check the battery wiring and the connectors for a possible loose contact or for possible oxidation. (see Engine ECU power supply)
  • Check the working of the generator, if the charging voltage is correct.
