2.2.96. SPN 2791, FMI 31, EGR valve: Not presentΒΆ

Description

The engine ECU cannot identify the EGR actuator.

Possible causes are:

  • The EGR actuator is defective.
  • The CAN bus is defective.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. Engine power is reduced (Degradation Level 1). The CAN message indicates an active fault.

Solution

First save the error log and then do the procedure that follows:

  • Examine the EGR actuator wiring, the connectors and the contact surfaces of the connector pins (possible oxidation).
  • Test the operation with another EGR actuator to see if the actuator is defective.

See EGR actuator ( Exhaust Gas Recirculation) for reference.
