4.2.15. SPN 105, FMI 16, Intake air temp. ABOVE NORMAL (90°C)

Description

The measured intake manifold temperature rises above the warning limit (90°C). The temperature sensor is integrated into the boost pressure sensor. Possible causes for the high temperature indication are:

  • The charge air cooling system is not working properly.
  • The intake manifold temperature sensor wiring is defective.
  • The intake manifold temperature sensor is defective.

Reaction in EEM

The FC is stored and the warning lamp is activated. Engine power will be reduced (Degradation Level 1). The CAN message indicates active fault.

Solution

Find the cause for the high intake manifold temperature indication:

  • Check the condition of the air-cooling system (cleanliness, pressure tightness, fan operation, etc.).

To check the electrical defects, check the intake air temperature sensor, the sensor wiring and the controller input: First save the error log and then erase it. Restart the ECU after erasing the error log. If the fault occurs again during the next driving cycle, check the following paths:

  • Check the intake manifold temperature sensor wiring, the connectors and the contact surfaces of the connector pins (possible oxidation).
  • Check the operation with another intake air temperature sensor to see if the intake air temperature sensor is defective.
